GRAVEL RIDES ARE SO DUMB...
BY CHANCE, we met up with some of our other dropbar pals halfway through our respective group's rides. Grabbing Mexican Coke's and snacks at the country store, we chatted for a bit...
... then our little group continued on the gravel roads...
They'd traveled on asphalt,
we'd traveled mostly on dirt.
They'd dealt with cars,
we'd dealt with dust.
They'd paused at many lights,
we'd crossed a few streams.
They'd avoided road hazards,
we'd sliced single track.
... and that made all the difference.
I'd dragged, cajoled... nah, just invited a few of my gravleros to check out this route because after riding it last week I was worried it was too hard.
Turns out it's not...
It's challenging.
It's climby.
It's fun.
... according to them.
The question I have now is...
Can we do it under 4 hours if we're really getting after it?
Don't think so.
Really?
62 miles, 5000' of vert, some techy trails.
Yeah, it'd be hard.
You'd have to average just over 15 mph.
We averaged 14.
Maybe a pro, or some young stallion.
I left it that, ready for the challenge. But, first I think we need a few more practice runs and some much cooler temps.
Who's in for a dumb gravel ride?
I was wishing I had this tire on the back today. It was a little dusty and loose and climbing outta the saddle was tricky.
These are pretty hard to find.
