YOU DON'T KNOW THE SHAPE I'M IN
LOOKS CAN BE DECEIVING, especially on the start line. We judge the body shapes, assess the equipment, the looks on the faces...
... tell ourselves a story.
About how it will go down.
My best lesson on this was running a 10k,
back in the day.
I was bike fit,
had a pair of old running shoes...
... thought I'd show the runners how it's done.
How hard could it be to lope for 40 minutes?
Somewhere around the 5k mark,
about 30 minutes in...
- a chubby dude with rubbing thighs
- a little ol' saggy lady
- a 10 year old
... ripped on by.
Lesson learned.
Don't judge.
We have no idea what kinda shape people are in,
what they're struggling with,
how they hurt.

When I exited the van this morning there as a twentysomething sitting on the curb.
Thoughtful,
maybe sad.
What are you listening to?
MJ Lenderman.
Sounds cool.
Yeah, I really like this song You Don't Know The Shape I'm In.
Right on, I'll give it a lesson.
You'll like it.
Thanks.
