WHY IT'S SO HARD TO TAKE A BREAK

WHY IT'S SO HARD TO TAKE A BREAK

AFTER SUNDAY'S RACE, BWR CA, I swore I'd take a really good break. Stay off the bike, until at least Thursday, because I knew I was...

... exhausted and mentally burned.

This morning's excuse to break my vow was really good...

... had to drop the van off to be serviced.

And, you know, that required riding my bike home.

Surely, 30 minutes of spinning would be okay.

Was it?

I mean, the legs felt like doodoo.

Here's the real problem...

  • our minds need to relax, get away from the grind
  • our bodies need the physical work
  • our days are organized

... we've built a routine optimized for life.

The withdrawals were killing me.

Out I went at sunset...

... with no plan but to pedal some, and coast more.
