WHICH CAT SHOULD WE CHASE?
FIGURING OUT WHO TO CHASE IS PRETTY TRICKY. Choose correctly and things can end well, choose poorly and it could mean finishing far behind our capabilities...
... or, not finishing at all.
There are basically three kinds of people you can chase in a big endurance race. Assume all three are leaving you behind...
... who's your target?
- The cat who's quickly going up the road, and riding off into the distance.
- The cat who's also ripping away, but comes back as the terrain changes.
- The cat who's slowly easing away.
For me, it's cat #3, the slow easer. That's the one that is going to make me stretch, but not to the point of blowing up.
Next best is #2 because I'm probably equal or better in certain areas. The key is to capitalize on those areas and slowly let go.
The worst is #1. Those cats are on a totally different level, what works for them will not work for me...
... to the point I'll be worse off if I try and match their speed.
Pick wisely.
