Decades earlier I'd collapsed on this same climb. On a similar day, Brad and I had foolishly joined Jeff and Eric. They were Cat 1s out for a good time on a big climb... ... I think we were the entertainment. We never made it to the top that day. Instead, we pulled over and enjoyed the view, joking about what a dumb idea it was to try and keep up with those cats... ... it would be years before I would try again. Eventually I found my tribe, or they found me? Encouraged me. Loved me. Looked out for me. Taught me... ... what it took to be good. That's the vibe of our tribe. Being good. Even great.
