TRAINING VS PRACTICE, IS THER A DIFFERENCE?
THE PROBLEM WITH GOING TOO FAST isn't actually going to fast. Unanticipated problems can crop up for sure, from equipment failure to plain ol' loss of control. But, the real issue is...
... how we see speed.
If it's the first time we've ever hit 50, on bike with not much more than underpants for protection, that's gonna look different than if we've done it 100 times.

Sometimes I think it would be better to call our riding between races Practice instead of Training.
Training, stressful.
Training feels like we know what to do and we are just grooving it in.
Practice feels more playful, like it's okay to try several different approaches into a turn or off a jump.
Practice, fun.

How we see a problem, like too much speed, determines how we react.
How we react determines quality of life.
