TRAINING THE COMFORT ZONE

ONE OF THE OFTEN OVERLOOKED BENEFITS OF ZONE 2 TRAINING is the concurrent, and typically untapped, training of the Comfort Zone.  Beware, this isn't some foofoo guru hoohah...

... this requires a brave and playful heart.

Because we are much more clear headed in Zone 2 vs the seeing of stars lunacy when in Zone 5, smart people like us use this as an opportunity to get comfortable with speed.

Could be as simple as railing a turn and staying off the brakes...

... or as complex as shredding some single track.

Whatever the case, we should maximize every opportunity while thinking clear and not being out of breath...

... to learn and practice carrying more speed.

I noticed this on my MTB jaunt this morning.

After zipping downhill off road, at a pace many would be panicking, I saw my HRM indicating...

... a rather low 97 bpm.

There's no better time than Zone 2...

... to master getting comfortable with more speed.

All you need is a bit of courage and a lot of playfulness.
