READY OR NOT
WHY DOES EVERYBODY WANT A GUARANTEE? I received two messages today that I appreciate...
... but, can't relate to.
One cat is bailing out on the stage race in AZ next month. Says he's not ready and is holding off for a race later in the month.
The other messaged me about the awesome Surf N Summit in May, concerned he doesn't have the skills to clear the final climb.
For AZ, I get it it. Really, I do. Had the 'rona in January and am just now starting to feel good again. I'm at least a month behind in my prep.
Here's the even sillier part, one that really has me questioning how well I'll do. The first AZ road stage race mixes 3 age groups...
... I won't even know who I'm racing against.
Then, the second AZ MTB stage race, I really thought I had a chance since I'm aging up this year. One problem. The promoter, bless her heart, bases the ages on the age you are on raceday vs the more traditional age you are on 12/31. Instead of being the youngest guy in my class...
... I'll be the oldest.
As for the doubts about completing the Surf N Summit, I don't even know if I can finish it. This will be an amazing adventure, one never to be forgotten, quite likely the longest day I've ever had on a bike.
Of course we want to win,
and hit our goals,
and finish stuff
It's the unknown outcome that makes it so exciting...
... because it demands our best.
