PLAYING WITH MYSELF
ONCE WE'RE HOOKED on the endurance lifestyle we eventually find our tribe. The locals who are into it as we are. Meeting up to train...
... takes our training to a whole new level.
In a number of ways.
It's social,
friendships develop.
It's competitive,
we dig harder than we would alone.
It's accountable,
they're gonna be there, let's go!
It's fun,
something goofy is bound to happen.
For all those reasons and more...
... we thrive with our tribe.
But, sometimes we need a break not because the above is too much, but because we need to...
... tap back into our origin story.
Alone.
The playful passion that got us to where we are.
Which is exactly what I did today.
Met up with kids,
fist bumped,
etc.
I'd prepped them that I was peeling off if the pace was more than I wanted in October, and while it seemed perfectly fine...
... I managed to get a big boy cup on Strava.
At which point I made good...
... they powered on.
I split right, and went in search of miles and miles of singletrack goodness...
- alone
- adventuring new to me trails
- climbing relaxed and then bombing any and all downhills
... exactly what I needed today.
Connect to my roots.
The thing about playfulness I love...
... it's the kind of riding that feels effortless because it is so much fun.
