SATURDAYS AND BIKES AND FRIENDS STARTED OUT WHEN I WAS ABOUT 10. Me and the gang ‘d ride all day. Nobody missed us.
As soon as someone could drive, surfing pushed the bikes to the side. But surfing is a fickle lover and the bike is always good, always ready.
When the family was young I rallied the crew to get back from riding by 830ish. Just as the kid’s cereal and cartoon sesh came to an end, I’d romp in grab the youngins gear em up and go for the second ride, like a hobbit’s second breakfast.
Now they’re all growed up and the only way we can get the band together and unplugged from work and school is taking a trip.
It’s Saturday and I’m not riding and it’s perfect.
