ONE OF MY PALS HAS JOINED US ON 3 MTB RIDES, The first two ended with spilt blood and broken parts. It was my fault. In my exuberance to share my love of dirt I failed to assess his ability. For at least 6 months he's blown me off...
... undeterred, I kept inviting.
At our practice MTB race last night, he showed up. It made me so happy just to see him there.
We first did a parade lap around the course so everybody knew where to go. I kept looking back expecting the worse. This wasn't a baby course...
... we like challenges.
Clearly he'd been riding dirt on his own. He'd upped his skills a ton...
... after the last lap, he was all smiles.
I may be a con man when it comes to inviting on rides, but it ain't malicious. It's because I know it's the only way to be a confident cat.
Do the rides.
Like our wounds.
Learn what worked.
Repeat.
It's a pretty simple formula, and it works for anything because over time our confidence improves. The overwhelming obstacles become easy. It's a virtuous cycle.
