HOW MUCH DID IT COST ME TO SHAVE 18 MINUTES OFF MY PR AT LEADVILLE?

SO, HOW MUCH DID IT COST?  After being asked how I did it, how I shaved 18 minutes off my PR, going 7:57, and logging the 3rd fastest time ever for my age group...

... I had to dissect the numbers.

Was it worth it?

Yes.

Definitely a Hellyeah!

If you want the same results, do this:

• Lose 8 lbs (down from my PR in '19 - 20lbs down from '99)
• Double your saddle time (biggest week was 24 hrs ride time)
• Spend an obscene amount of $ on your bike and upgrades
• Lift weights every single day
• Stretch and recover every single day
• Qualify for Silver Corral previous season (start training 18 months out)
• Increase sleep 10-20%
• Eat only whole foods
• No soda
• Refine bike fit with a professional over months
• Purchase second set of race wheels
• Take wife to Mexico for a week of surf
• Use Hypervolt daily
• Remove stresss
• Move to Colorado mountains for the summer

I'm sure I'm missing little things, like Skratch Superfuel, top of the line Fizik shoes, badass Selle Italia saddle...

... but  you get the idea.

I left nothing to chance, and it cost 10s of 1000s of $.

I say Hellyeah! to that because I just had to know what I was capable of...

... there is nothing more satisfying than knowing I did my best.

Did it sting to wind up second place?

Not even a little bit.

Sub-8 was the goal.

Competition with others is always a losing game.  

There is always somebody better, and I'm always grateful for that...

... because it shows what is possible.

Admittedly, I have been fuming immediately after being beaten on more than one occasion.   And, been wanting revenge when the winner is a tool about the victory  But that passes quickly.  As it should...

... it's always better to be gracious in winning and losing.

A minor thing I could have done was get a few massages...
