GET YOUR @$$ IN GEAR

GET YOUR @$$ IN GEAR

GOT A BUNCH OF PROVOCATIVE EMAIL TODAY.  First, the incredible Hugh.   Anybody who completes the Everest Challenge is amazing in my book. One problem, in his own words...

... he's covered his studliness in blubber.

I thought about sending a kind and gentle email, relating to how hard it is to keep fit and juggle life.

But, he's a stud.

So, I wrote him back...

... Get off your @$$!

Thanks for the motivation, Todd!  Not having scheduled races/events over the past two years is exactly why I gained the weight and retained it:  No goals, no competition, with just nominal effort, has kept me from the ‘eyes on the prize’ focus, thus yielding its own outcome.  Time to get my @$$ in gear.

There is so much magic in signing up for an event, even one of our own making like Everesting.

What this stud really needs is to commit for 10 weeks.  My brother did that 4 weeks ago and according to dear ol' mom over turkey dinner...

... Matt looks great.  I asked him what he's doing and he said your program.

Then Brian has the juevos to send this contrary opinion:

Hey there: my opinion?

PR’s are worthless or at best, not worth much at all.
Why?
Way too many variables that significantly influence any given performance. They include, equipment, weather, riding conditions (solo, in a group? etc), sleep, diet, physical health, and on and on and on.
Without isolating and controlling for any particular variable, a PR doesn’t meaningfully inform me of much at all.

Just my two cents….
Which I think actually proves my point.
What we are after is our PERSONAL RECORD, regardless of what the Strava Lords say...
... only you know if it was your best effort.
---
On a related note, when we set about going for a PR often we find the universe conspires to make it happen...
... it's almost scary how often that has happened to me.
We can, and do, bend reality.
---
Frank's email of the custom shirt we made him (pic above)  really say it best...
PRs - you gotta risk it, to get the biscuit.

---
Where was I...
... some will wait until Jan 1 to start
others  have already started and will be 5 weeks ahead...

... what are you going to do?
