DON'T BE CAREFUL...
I'VE SEEN THIS SO MANY TIMES, I can predict who is going to kiss the rocks/dirt/asphalt and who is going to fly on by. It's easy because one is careful...
... and one is confident.
Being careful, when it comes to going fast on a bike, is very dangerous.
There is so much going on a careful rider quickly becomes overwhelmed with all the variables. Inevitably, the rider will hone in on the biggest perceived danger...
... and follow their eyes to their doom.
Being careful is akin to worrying. People that worry about getting sick, get sick. People that worry about never finding love, never find it. People that worry, always...
... get what they worry about.
Confident people approach it all differently.
That was very obvious today, my first attempt at skate skiing.
I thought it would be easy.
I've ice skated.
I've skied.
We clipped in.
Jeff skated away.
I took a push and fell on my @$$.
Ouch.
Instantly, I switched to careful mode.
Taking baby swipes, moving like a drunk robot.
Not pretty.
Very out of breath...
... while he glided confidently into the distance.
My falls got further apart, but I was a mess. Skis going this way and that, arms on fire. I was being way too careful.
The fastest way to move confidently:
- Hire a coach
- Practice 'till perfect.
Which is exactly what I'd do if I lived up here...
... don't be careful, be confident.
