DO AFFIRMATIONS WORK?

DO AFFIRMATIONS WORK?

CONCURRENTLY, SOME OF MY RECOMMENDED SUMMER READING HAS INCLUDED TWO BOOKS THAT TOUCHED ON THE POWER OF AFFIRMATIONS.  Affirmations are kinda weird, and near as I can tell nobody is quite sure what is going on... but, I've had unusual experiences, and I know I'm not alone.

Here are a few examples:

A while back I was a pretty decent MTB XC racer but mainly because I was exceptionally fast downhill.  I remember thinking how cool it would be to have a racecourse that was just the downhill part of XC... a few years later Super-D was born, and I was winning Nationals.

Not long ago, I had the goal of beating the perennial champ at LoToJa.

Then, last year my outrageous goal of besting my 20 year old PR at Leadville.

Coincidence?  Luck?

One explanation explored in each book was that affirmations give your subconscious something to work on and you start to notice things that would help you accomplish your goal...key point, acting on those things.

I think that's probably true.

The other superpower(?) I think affirmations can give us that neither book touched on is confidence.  I've noticed that when truly big goals start to become real I can get nervous and start to doubt myself.  But, when I've been steadily affirming my goals I'm significantly more confident as the changes begin to take place.

At least half of ya are thinking Bullsheets and no doubt the other half want to know the mechanics of how to do it... and I'm not even sure half of you are correct.

So before y'all go hating on me or begging me for the secret sauce... here's a quote from our young local Kevin Vermaerke who today announced he'll be racing with Team Sunweb next year:

"Taking the step up to the WorldTour is something I have been dreaming about and working towards since I first started cycling."

... that's all there is to it.

What are you dreaming about?

I'm dreaming about a few new kit designs... if you dream of designing new kits, then make sure you're signed up in...

and if you are signed up be sure and share it to increase your odds of winning over $1500 in product and cash.
