DID MUHAMMAD ALI JUST WIN OUR LITTLE BIKE RACE?

I PUT MY MONEY ON BRETT TO GET THE V TODAY, and I was correct.  As usual.  I saw him go to work early, doing fake attack after fake attack.  It was a master class in subterfuge...

... and reminded me of the famous rope a dope fight with Foreman.

So many similarities.

The good looks, the brash swagger.  It was all there, but it had been so long since he'd decimated the ride nobody recognized him.

Instead, they surely wondered what this chunky brute was trying to prove with his weak and unmanly attacks...

... then he was gone.

Just like what Ali did Foreman, hypnotized him into thinking he had everything under control...

... then lights out.

10 miles from the finish line. 

That's a helluva long range attack, considering you've got a fairly frothy bunch of cats all looking to score and PR.

A few more attacked, but none could catch the bull on the loose.

Meanwhile, the rest of us are just looking around to see if anybody in our respective categories is gonna make a break for it or if things will be fairly tame...

Nobody made a move of substance until we hit the bottom of the corkscrew.

This is the final effort.

.71 miles.

195' elevation gain, most if it the first .35 mile.

It stings.

A lot.

Many weeks, I pull the plug and cruise across the line.

Not today.

We were all vying for a strong finish.  Even with Brett up the road, plus those other cats. 

'Din't matter.

It was on. 

What started as a ball of energy at the bottom, resembled a strung out line of old jalopies clunking across the line...

... gasping, and wheezing.

All in the name of fun, and a little cash.
