CHASING A POTATO CHIP AND OTHER DRAMA AT THE RACES
WE MANAGED TO GET 15 LAPS IN during the 8-hour race today. Not bad. Got us up on the podium. The thing about 2-man teams…
… it’s real obvious who’s the slowest.
That would be me.
Each of my legs, my laps got faster. With the last lap always the fastest. But, never as fast as the tat's fastest.
On my last lap of the first leg, I could see the tat’s kid charging hard after me. There was no way I was going to make it easy on him. We had a full drag race into the finish area…
… he got me.
The next time out, I could see this potato chip closing. Imaging a jersey, hanging on a giant potato chip, with toothpicks sticking out, flopping in the wind. That’s the size of the little kid chasing me. This little punk, I barely held off.
The final leg, my 6th and 7th laps were the funnest. The potato chip and I were each waiting for our guy to come in.
I left first.
He tacked on wisely, letting me deal with the wind.
Then he made a clean pass, but too early, because the old diesel carries a lot of momentum across the ridge. Finally…
… he opened a solid gap on me.
Meanwhile, some other cat is locked on to my wheel going up the windy false flat. I don’t care…
… then I do care.
Dude has the nuts to jump me right before the single track. Normally, it wouldn't bother me too much. But it was late in the day…
… and he’s a slug downhill and won’t let me by.
Even when I asked nice…
… which meant it was time for a block pass.
Sometimes, ya just gotta do it.
Then, of course, I had to make my pass stick.
First race of the year, got a long way to go…
… but we’ll get there.

You might be wondering, how much PR Lotion did I use? 3 solid applications. About 30 minutes before each outing.
I love this stuff…
… have you tried it?
