I wanted to hit the Zen trail.
Last time I rode was 6 years ago, the True Grit 50. It's a helluva trail. Lots and lots of sharp jagged rocks. Massive desert vistas. Some cactus. There is nothing like it back home.
It's slow.
Like a chess match,
the ancient rock is constantly checking our momentum.
One must be calm,
unhurried.
Strong,
yet flexible.
I love it!
However, one outta put some extra PSIs in the tires. I'd already rimmed out a few times ripping the fast stuff on the desert floor. Up here on the mesa I was keenly aware of the vicious rocks and keeping things in check...
... picking my way, nimbly.
But, it wasn't enough.
All it takes is one jagged rock at just the right angle and you can be just like me...
... hiking 4 miles in stiffsoled MTB shoes over rugged terrain for 90 minutes.
Pros
- Plenty of time to rethink my tire set up
- Cross train the shoulders to burning point by lugging the bike
- Have something to write about

- Miss an excellent dinner
- Nearly miss the concert as well
I like a good memory as much as the next cat. And, a greatly prefer a catastrophic sidewall tear on play day vs raceday.
