In the off season, we'd neverever use the big ring. There were small ring months, Oct-Dec. Sure, you can go plenty mcfast in the small ring...
... but, it's annoying enough to keep one in line.
Fortunately, or unfortunately, all mountain bikes and most gravel bikes are 1 X.
It's make shifting brainless.
Harder.
Easier.
So 2 X Discipline isn't really a thing.
The four seasons can help the weak minded.
Depending on the time of year and where you live, the weather could keep you outta the big and the small rings. Off the bike all together.
But, can it still?
Not really, not with all the nifty TrainerPelotoner things to choose from.
Season Discipline isn't really a thing.
Used to be race season lasted about 6 months.
Here, in CA, crit season and mtb season are on. They'll go straight through to fall when gravel and CX ramps up...

Can't 2X.
Can't blame the weather.
